WASTE

Everyday in Lincoln we throw 75% of our household waste into Landfill sites throughout Lincolnshire. Methane gas is released form landfill sites into our atmosphere and toxic chemicals (eg from disposable nappies) leach into the soil and water courses. Many items in landfill, such as plastics bags, are expected to take thousands of years to decompose leaving a nasty legacy for future generations to deal with. Not only this but our landfill sites are filling up fast and soon our only option will be incineration.

Waste is a very easy problem for householders to deal with in Lincoln as we can recycle most things at the kerbside. There are also plenty of glass recycling centres around the city - click here for more information. More important than recycling however is to reduce the amount of waste we produce in the first place. See articles published under our Eco Living section about recycling.
