TRANSITION LINCOLN

Transition Network was set up in spring 2007 to support Transition Initiatives around the world.  In Lincoln the Urban PIGs (Permacultrue Interest Group) decided it wanted to be a seed group for Transition Lincoln. The group launched it's ambitions to the wider public in 2008 by organising a screening of 'A crude Awakening' at Lincoln Drill Hall to raise awareness about climate change and peak oil.

We now meet on the second Wednesday of the month at Workskills on Mint Lane (5:30-7pm).  We also have a rapidly growing mailing list of people who want to learn how they can become less oil dependant and find answers for all those aspects of life that this community needs in order to sustain itself and thrive, how are we going to:

  • significantly rebuild resilience (in response to peak oil)
  • drastically reduce carbon emissions (in response to climate change)?

We soon found that there are people interested in transition throughout Lincolnshire, with Louth now officially designated a transition town.  For more information on Transition Louth click here.

Transition Lincoln have planned a series of thought provoking films titled 'The bigger picture film nights' as part of the build up to the UN Climate Conference in Copenhagen in December.    The following films will be screened in Lincoln:-

  • The Future of Food - There's a Revolution Happening.

An excellent wake up call to remind us why we are striving for a sustainable future and why our choices as consumers are so important.

Wednesday 16th September, 7pm in the Co op lecture theatre at the University of Lincoln. FREE

  • A Convenient Truth - A story of hope from Curitiba, Brazil. An important film about a marvellous city and its people called Curitiba where the problems of poverty, seasonal flooding, waste, transport and slums have been solved with little money but much political will and many ground breaking ideas.

Wednesday 7th October, 7pm in the Co op lecture theatre at the University of Lincoln. FREE

  • The 11th Hour Produced and presented by Leonardo DiCaprio, The Eleventh Hour is a powerful and inspiring environmental documentary, motivating audiences to take personal action against global warming and informing them about practical ways of doing so.

Wednesday 4th November Ruston Room, 7pm. Lincoln Drill Hall. Tickets £1.50

  • The End of Suburbia - Oil depletion and the collapse of an American Dream. A documentary film that discusses the dwindling supply of cheap energy in the form of fossil fuels and its effect on society and what can be done NOW, individually and collectively, to avoid The End of Suburbia? Drinks and nibbles will be available after the film.

Wednesday 2nd December Ruston Room, 7pm. Lincoln Drill Hall. Tickets £2.50

We have also planned a skills share event on Saturday 19th September titled 'Stay solvent, sane and sustainable and beat the credit crunch!' Re-skilling is about learning some basic skills our grandparents took for granted: basic bike maintenance; mending clothes; repairing furniture; pickling and preserving food to name but a few. There will be a wide range of workshops, demonstrations and displays in the Auditorium at the Lincoln Drill Hall between 1pm and 4pm.

On the 26th and 27th of September there will be an introduction to permaculture course arranged by Transition Lincoln in partnership with Riseholme college.  The course tutors both have small holdings in Lincolnshire and are experienced in the principles of permaculture.  The course will cost £40 waged, £20 unwaged including lunch.  For more details or to reserve a place please contact Kate Bell

If you would like to keep up to date on environmental initiatives organised by transition Lincoln and Ecolincs contact Kate and ask to be added to the Lincoln Environmental e-mailing list.
